The corporate attendee does not buy the registration. They ask for permission to buy it.

Why does an early-bird campaign fail to sell corporate registrations?

Because the tier discount speaks to the wrong person. The one reading the email is the manager who wants to attend. The ones deciding are the boss who approves the trip and the finance team that approves the invoice. Neither of them got the email.

Short definition: a corporate registration is one paid by the company rather than the individual, which is why it goes through at least one internal approval before it exists as a sale.

The real path of a corporate registration:

  1. The prospective attendee discovers the event and decides they want to go.
  2. They have to justify it to their direct manager: why this event, why them, what comes back to the company.
  3. The manager has to fit it into a training or travel budget that was usually set months ago.
  4. Finance needs an invoice, billing details, sometimes vendor onboarding.
  5. Only then does the registration happen. Often weeks after the first sign of interest.

The discounted tier works on step one. The other four get no support at all.

What happens at each step without help from the organizer:

The attendee builds the business case alone, as best they can. The manager receives a vague request and answers "let's see". The tier deadline passes. The attendee gives up or waits for the next tier, which arrives at a higher price with the same missing argument. The organizer watches registrations spike only in the final week and concludes that "our audience decides at the last minute". They do not. They get stuck halfway through approval.

This does not change by country. A conference in Bogota, a congress in Madrid or a summit in Chicago all pass through the same internal funnel inside the attendee's company. What changes is the currency and the name of the finance form.

There is one simple sign that an organizer is not seeing this funnel: every piece of registration sales material is written for the person who wants to go, and none of it is written for the person who has to say yes.

The question we leave is about your own event: how many corporate registrations do you estimate died this year not from lack of interest, but from the lack of an argument the attendee could forward to their boss?
